Single Women Will Save the Reno Housing Market by Stephanie Hanna

OK, so that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but there is some truth there. The realty of it is, I’ve got three female, single first time Reno home buyers that I’m currently working with getting a first time buyer loan on. One of them just closed on her Spark’s condo last week, the second is waiting for a counter offer on a short sale of a home in Northwest Reno, and the third is in the middle of her home search in the Northwest Reno area as well.

Having purchased my first Reno home as a  Reno single woman, I definitely feel pride when I see other young, successful Reno women doing the same. Good for them that they don’t feel they need to wait until they find the elusive Reno man of their dreams to make the first biggest purchase of their life. They are taking advantage of an incredible Reno housing market and our low interest rates on Reno mortgages and are wise to do so.

The housing market (currently a Reno buyers market) we’re in right now won’t last forever. True, it may go on for another 12-18 months, but after this “depressed market” is over, it may again be hard for many single buyers; both single male and single females to go out and buy a Reno Home or Reno Condo on their own.

So what’s a single Reno girl to do? Call up a Reno mortgage banker and have them run  some loan numbers for you. Doing some research never hurt anyone, and it certainly doesn’t cost any money. See what you really can afford, all three Reno women I’ve worked with have been surprised by how much house they can get for a “smaller” monthly payment. And it’s amazing how much Reno home you can get right now in the $250,000 home range or under.

What happens if you don’t feel you can make the monthly rent on your own each month? Look into getting a roommate. There’s nothing better than having someone else help make your mortgage payment each month.
The point is, just look into it. Keep in mind, you might not be buying the home of your dreams that you’ll live in forever. My first Reno house was 736 sq ft and I often look back and wonder how all of my clothes even fit into the two closets I had. But that home gave me a taste of home ownership and I’ve never looked back. I still have that home, and one other that are rentals, as well as the home I live in with my husband.

So single women unite. Before you get in line to see the new Sex in the City (poor New York women, they could never afford a home of their own), call up a Reno Mortgage Banker and or Reno Mortgage Broker to see what opportunities exist for you.

Best of luck,
